Travel Tyro: Portland Eats in Nob Hill

If you've seen my Instagram lately, I've been posting a lot about the Sorelstyle shoot I was apart of.
When I wasn't on set, I really tried to explore the city of Portland. I definitely ate my way around while exploring, but hands down the best place for dining was right in Nob Hill, specifically NW 23rd Avenue, a hub of vintage boutiques and restaurants.

Below are my top picks for places to eat, sip, or savor.

Best Dessert: Salt and Straw

I am an self-professed ice cream aficionado, so naturally Salt and Straw was on the top of my travel list for Portland. Voted as one of the top five ice cream places in the United States by Food Network, I went in with high expectations— and was not disappointed! Honestly, Salt and Straw was one of the best scoops I've ever had. Lavender ice cream is my favorite flavor and also happens to be one of the most obscure types around. I was so tickled when Salt and Straw had it— and there Snickerdoodle was also out of this world.

Best Meal: 23 Hoyt

On our last night in Portland, the SOREL girls and I went out for dinner to celebrate the end of shooting. Admittedly, we head to 23rd Avenue for some more ice cream at Salt and Straw, but ended up eating dinner first at 23 Hoyt. Accurately described as "New York chic meets Northwest cool", we loved the farm to table feel and delicious burger.

Best Coffee: Barista

Honestly, I'm not a huge coffee snob. I love coffee, but don't get caught up in the finite details to craft a cup. While I did enjoy a good cup of Stumptown's (they started in Portland) it's really all about the aesthetics and vibes of a coffee shop for me— cozy chairs, hushed conversations, chic lighting fixtures that brighten the room just right, that's what I value in a coffee shop! When I was exploring Nob Hill, I was in desperate need of a place to charge my phone and was so delighted to stumble upon Barista. I loved the spacious seating, friendly baristas, and large windows for people watching— oh, and the iced coffee was decidedly on point too. ;)

Best Sweet Treat: VooDoo Donuts

While technically not on Nob Hill, all of the friendly locals were telling me I had to stop by Voodoo during my trip. There's actually a big rivalry between Blue Star and Voodoo in Portland, but after tasting both, Voodoo is the winner by a landslide. Oh, and have fun trying to decide which crazy flavor to try. The variety is as outrageous as the decor and story behind the place.
