Travel Guide: Captiva

Captiva is the perfect little getaway whether you're visiting the Gulf Coast of Florida or a Floridian native like myself. A true hidden gem, I love the small island's low-key vibes (last summer I talked about its lack of commercial stores and traffic lights) and assorted tropical flora, including cacti. The beaches are never packed and the water is the epitome of crystal clear, but they're also plenty of opportunities to bike, parasail, or cruise on land or sea. Be sure to dine at the Bubble Room though, a kitschy, colorful, and perfectly touristy restaurant with some delicious local fish and key lime pie that's been on the island since 1979.
