Advice for A College Tyro: Live Your Life!

At first I was very hesitant to write this blog post, but I kept unconsciously thinking about this topic in my head throughout the week, so I knew I had to finally sit down and write about it.

This week I received some very sad news three times over.
A family member passed away after being sick for some time.
A fellow student on campus was murdered during a robbery on Spring Break.
A legendary designer and inspiration, L'Wren Scott, died from an apparent suicide.

Through these tragedies, I have been reminded about my own vitality and what a true gift it is
to simply wake up everyday and live. It is so easy to take life for granted, yet we so frequently
do. We make goals for the future without flinching. We open the blinds in the morning and forget
to look outside. We walk with our headphones on to drown out the world. We forget to stop and
smell the roses.

This week, I've been feeling a huge sense of gratitude.
I've written down events on next month's calendar, thankful that I can do so without overwhelming fear that I won't be around to do them. I opened my blinds this morning and saw the most beautiful sunrise over the Charles River. I walked to class without my earphones and took in all of the sounds of the city. I started feeling stressed about my long to-do list this week and then stopped myself and realized how grateful I am for all of the awesome activities and projects on the list I never thought I would be doing. We should never let death cast a permanent shadow over our lives, but we should never take a day for granted.

Live your life to the fullest today and every other day.
