What is A Tyro?

According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a tyro is a beginner in learning. To me, being a tyro is embracing my rookie, amateur, new kid on the block status as a college freshman and a big city newcomer. As cliche as it might sound, I've always had big city dreams.

I've come to the conclusion that the inception of such a dream was only inevitable though, beginning with a trip to the Big Apple with my dad at the age of four that turned into an annual tradition. While I didn't grow up in a small town by any means, I was immediately enchanted by the special energy and diversity a big city can offer. Block by block, the variety of museums, restaurants, shopping, people, culture, and architecture was exhilarating.

As my exposure to big cities has expanded from the Big Apple to other places on the east and west coast, my dream of living among the everyday hustle and bustle has only increased. By the time I filled out all of my (10- that’s another story!) college applications last fall, I had already narrowed down my choices to schools in or near big cities in the North East.

As fate would have it, I was accepted to Boston University, located in the heart of America's best college town Boston aka Beantown. Follow along as I learn, share, and grow from the new opportunities, experiences, and challenges college and city life have to offer while also working on my Bostahn accent.
